EVs are usually somewhat cheaper to run than ICEs based on the location, but way way cheaper if there are large elevation changes on route. Because both EVs and ICEs use loads of energy while climbing uphill but EVs regain most of that back while going back downhill using regenative breaking unlike ICEs which just have to loose all that potential energy from altitude to heat from braking friction. More wear and tear as well I would assume for ICEs when going downhill.

I specifically had an experience with a rental bolt euv -- climbed 10000 ft and gained almost all of it back (minus the distance of course). And the amount I paid for charging was way lower than what I would have paid for gas, don't remember the numbers now (but I guess about half or less). And this was when I was in the state with the highest electricity rates in all of US.
